Elnur Mattira 8kw Combi Electric Boiler

The Elnur Mattira is a highly reliable electric combi boiler designed for wall-mounted installation.

Why choose an electric boiler?

As resources of gas and oil are expected to run out within the next 40 years, electricity is set to be one of the best solutions for home heating. This is because and electric heating system doesn’t produce any emissions, there’s no risk of a carbon monoxide leak, have a quick response to the central heating being turned on, boast flexible installation and there’s no need for an annual service (although they are recommended).

Why is the efficiency different to gas?

Electric boilers are often labelled with a 99-100% efficiency rating however, they’re only awarded an ErP D-rating. This is compared to gas and oil which rarely exceed a 93% efficiency rating yet receive an ErP A-rating.

Electric boilers feature a high efficiency rating thanks to little-to-no energy being lost during operation, while 7% of the fuel being used by gas and oil boilers is lost. This means that for every £1 spent on heating your home, 7p is lost.

The ErP is lower on an electric boiler for a couple of reasons. Firstly, electricity is expensive (13.19p/kWh for a standard electricity tariff and 3.48p/kWh for gas according to Standard Assessment Procedure 2012) and secondly, electricity is considered a carbon intensive fuel. The emissions of natural gas production, before being delivered to the home, is 0.216kg of CO2 per kilowatt-hour (kWh). Meanwhile, emissions from electricity generation is 0.519 kg of CO2 per kWh, that’s more than double the emissions from natural gas and, as a result, electricity is considered more carbon intensive than natural gas.
